Family according to a 2 year old

A couple of weeks ago I went to my brother’s house to help watch my niece. She’s 2 (and a half) and full of sooo much spunk and personality. We spent the day watching Deigo and saving her “pigmy marmosets” (apparently those are tiny monkeys… the things I learn hanging out with a two year old...) and coloring and “cooking” in her kitchen and sitting on her bed (aka her “nest”). We basically went through every possible pretend situation there was (we even pretended to be a bush at one point).

Honestly? I had so much fun. Spending time with my family is always an adventure (in this case, literally).

As we were leaving my niece ran over and gave everyone hugs and a kiss on the cheek. As her mom carried her upstairs to go to bed and we headed out the door, she turned around and said “GOODBYE FRIENDS!!!”

Friends? Well… she’s right. The wisdom of a 2 year old. We’re not just family, we are friends. That’s actually what I was “grateful for” this last thanksgiving- “for friends who are family and family who are friends” what a great blessing.

So what is family? Well according to a spunky, crazy, loving, full of energy two year old- they are FRIENDS. J
