I recently reconnected with my family after a couple years off at college and being on my own - you know, trying to be all "independent". It had been a while since I legitimately chatted with or had a serious conversation with either of my parents. I miss them and my little siblings.
I happened to call at a really convenient time. My grandparents were visiting from New Mexico, and my uncle and cousin were over to have dinner with them and my family. I was able to talk to them all in the same night and catch up with so many people who mean a lot to me. This happens every time I call family; the phone gets passed around the room until I've hit everybody up.
It's amazing what a few words exchanged between loved ones can do. Even though I'm so far away from all of my family members, brief conversations with them go a long way to brightening my day and reminding me how much I love and miss them and how much they love and miss me. Laughter, happiness, sympathy, and kindness. Family is made of these. These are traded with words among family. Having that support system in family ties has made a huge impact on my life.
I hope we can spread the same kinds of connections and love to other families.
